Country Music Names

An rousing trend is currently occurring in country music radio: country singer names, first and final (sometimes middle), are being simplified. Garth Brooks is Garth. Reba McEntire is Reba. Willie Nelson is just Willie. After a song, radio disc jockeys are reducing the names down to one.

It is possible it’s a time-saving device; it’s easier to say “That was Willie with ‘Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain’.” Some can argue that the simplified name is because of country music’s “simple” fans. While some country music fans can embrace this label, others can find it offensive.

But might be dwindling names is a sign of respect for the artist. The artists with only one name have gained a certain amount of regard in th music business. Toby Keith has become Toby. At times Brooks and Dunn is Kix and Ronnie ( it’s not shorter but more respectful). Then of course the big names: Reba, Garth, Alan (or AJ), Willie, and so on. It gets trickier with names prefer George (George Strait or George Jones?) and Hank (junior or senior?). But even Hank is again and again “Hank Junior” or “Hank Senior.” On the contrary, country singer names of newer artists are al the majority always referred to in full.

However another argument is the sense of comfort country music induces in its listeners. Perhaps deejays try to secure that by referring to the multi-million-dollar stars by their 1st names. They talk about Reba prefer she’s your sister and not a star you will never meet (this is reinforced by the reruns of her television show where she’s the mother next door). Radio has given these country singer names and some, prefer Reba, have embraced them, showing only the 1st name on posters, compact disc s, and even television shows.

And you recall uncle Garth instead of the best -selling performer of all time with enough money to assist his gran kids’s grand kids. This is the same guy who differ d the way musicians negotiated contracts and got paid; this country singer names his price on anything. He became convincing in the industry and bought a extensive house and smashed thousand-dollar guitars on stage. But the radio makes you think you might call him up and talk about fishing two Sundays ago when you were eating fried chicken on the bank and did not get a bite. And don’t forget his superstar wife, Trisha.

All in all, country musician names shortened seems to mean something. It is up to the individual to determine meaning, but disk jockeys had to have shortened them for a reason. Next, you have to wonder when the new country music singers’ names will dwindle down to one. Or may be you miss the Brooks, the McEntires, the Nelsons, the Williams. may be you want the last names back. And what about the singers with three names: Earl Thomas Connely, John Michael Montgomery. Do they lose radio time because they have long names?

The Art of Music

Music is the art of arranging sounds in periodic time so as to create a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.

It’s furthermore the vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm. Music could furthermore be when an aesthetically pleasing or harmonious sound or mixture of sounds are produced example the music of the water falling from a tap in a vessel.

Most of the time music is kept in memory and performance only. If handed down orally, this music may be considered “traditional” or not considered composed by individuals. Different musical traditions have diverse attitudes towards how and where to make varys to the original source. If the music is written down, it’s generally in some manner which attempts to capture both what should be heard by fans, and what the musician should do to perform the music.

In most of the parts of the world music is a part of everyday life. Chanting and singing during religious rites and festivals are truly common. Music as a performing art is truly usual among Indians. It was furthermore among the seventeenth-century New England settlers who used music during their religious observances by chanting psalms in the meeting house as an important communal activity.

By the end of the century psalm singing had become dissonant since worshipers could no longer read the musical patterns in the religious book. The right rendering of tunes was of lesser importance than religious passion so a lot of ministers and musical refreshers, observed the teaching of musical notation to restore order in the community. Regular singing soon gave rise to the development of singing schools and the creation of music for secular entertainment.

The revolutionary war saw a flowering of musical creativity. Supporters of the American cause quite again and again vary d the words of British tunes, such as “Yankee Doodle,” to taunt their adversaries. The immediate post revolutionary cultural climate was one of optimism that Americans could create their own culture free of English influence.

In the 1850s, the call for an independent American music was heard again, this time from a composer whose New York(NY) lectures in the early fifties inspired an interest in the development of an American musical language. But the drive for cultural independence fell short.

With the wars came the marches and sentimental tunes that spoke of home, wives, mothers and children became popular. Composers and entrepreneurs printed a lot of of these. In the second half of the century, a lot of successful American composers had studied in Europe and adopted the romantic style despite the ongoing arguments for an American music. a lot of men who earned their livelihoods as professors achieved respectability with works that bore considerable resemblance to similar pieces being composed in Europe at the time.

In the end of the century, major orchestras came up in New York. Smaller communities observed performances by local/regional bands, which reflected the popular taste for dances, marches, and synchronizing excerpts. The troupes moving throughout the country, performed combined comedic episodes, scenes from Shakespeare’s plays, dancing, and minstrel tunes performed in black face.

The Many Countries – A Rant About Country Music

Posted by Music Archive | Posted in Country Music | Posted on 09-05-2009

It’s no secret that over the past couple decades country music has struggled with it’s identity far more than any other genre in the industry. At this point nobody could really claim to be a country music fan without being questioned what kind of country fan? The answers being seemingly infinite, I have broken them down into several main types (but really, there could be so a lot of more).
Pop Country
This category could really be referred to as “Nashville Country.” It hosts might about 90 % of the country music out there. I again and again find people not wanting to admit in conversation that they’re fans of this category. They like to talk about how they love Willie Nelson and mouth the words to Merle Haggard tunes even though it’s apparent their faking it. Then they get alone in their cars and unwind by driving down the highway, blasting Shania Twain on the radio, and singing along at the top of their lungs. Let me just say, there’s little wrong with that, like what you like. Nashville record labels pick truly skill ed, again and again attractive singers that perform with some amazing bands. They furthermore have some of the top songwriters and composers in the industry working for them.
One criticism I would have against this category…In recent years, there has been a rebellion of sorts against Nashville music from musicians in both the Rebel and Texas sub types (see below) with tunes booing Nashville and praising the old timers. On occasion this gains them popularity and they get so popular that they land a big contract with a Nashville record company and for some reason everybody is perfectly comfortable with this phenomenon. This is what I like to refer to as “Pat Green Syndrome”.
Rebel/ Rock n Roll Country
Very liberal people are who you tend to find in this category. These artists just do whatever they feel like doing, and consequently there are not a lot of of them, or at least not a lot of of them that stay popular following their initial shock value wears off. They are again and again independent and like letting it all hang out. A wonderful example currently in the limelight is Gretchen Wilson. Others that haven’t quite reached her popularity level, but have been around for a while include Ray Wylie Hubbard and Todd Snider.
On occasion the guys in this category derive quite a bit of their rebelness from incorporating rock into their music. Good examples of this are Robert Earl Keen and James McMurty (I highly recommend both of them).
Texas Country
This category has developed into somewhat of a music cult, and it stretches all over the United Sates. (Note, this final month there was a huge three day Texas music festival in Colorado). It’s popularity started off with the likes of Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Gary P. Nunn. What really sent it off in recent years was the popularity of Robert Earl Keen, Cory Morrow, Pat Green, and Jack Ingram. It plays extremely well in frat houses across the Lone Star State. While the guys mentioned earlier have taken off in a diverse direction, new musicians like Max Stalling, Mark David Manders, and Ed Burleson have started to take their place. If you ever watch this development, it’s simple to see that the Texas music business is rising so fast that it will might soon be just as big as Nashville’s.
Old Country
If you could sing the words to three or more Willie Nelson, George Jones, and Johnny Cash tunes please come in. If you could sing along to Patsy Cline, Charlie Rich, and Hank Williams please take a seat. If you could croon all night with Bob Wills please let me get you a beer, I’m glad  all of us  met. Welcome to the old country category, sadly a lot of people find it boring here.
Real Old Country
Most people in this category know how to yodel. They’ve might witnessed an individual play the bones, If the y do not already know how to play them themselves. The people in this category refer to each other as “folks” and recognize that country’s roots derived from folk music. This category requires being able to enjoy sitting on a front porch sipping ice tea in the middle of the summer while some old man plays “Streets of Laredo” on an old Gibson. Indulging in campfire banjo playing endorses as well.
If you are like me, you might have your favorite category and then like some things out of each one. There’s not really any one way to define country music, and with it being an ever-changing industry there might never will be. One thing that doesn’t vary though, no matter which category, you could still dust of your boots and take just about any country song to the dance hall with you.
