Hannah Montana Fans Fighting Brokers for Concert Tickets

If you think Disney’s
the only one reaping loads of money from the television hit Hannah Montana, think again. Miley Cyrus has grown into a massive teen idol since her show, Hannah Montana, hit the airwaves, and it seems that nothing’s gonna stop her now. She recently launched a tour which would take her to various states in the U.S. and previous reports say that her tickets literally flew out of the stores.

This became a problem to the hundreds of other eager fans who would like to see her in concert. The tickets were immediately sold, leaving the fans to look for other ways to purchase them. The solution was to approach a scalper. However, being the tricky businessmen that they are, the scalpers have been selling these tickets at unbelievable prices.

Apparently, scalpers have hogged the tickets and are now selling it from $200 to thousands of dollars per ticket. Ticket Liquidator prices the second row floor seats in Texas for $2,295 while StubHub, a popular concert ticket website, priced $3500 for a November concert date in Florida. TicketsNow started selling at $70 and ranging to over $1600 for Miley Cyrus show in North Carolina.

Pollster’s editor-in-chief Gary Bongiavanni anticipated this occurrence. ‘Up to 80 percent of inquiries of tickets come from these brokers,’ he said. ‘The average fan is competing with a pro whose mission is to score these tickets. Fans are at a disadvantage.’

In St. Louis, 1900 tickets were up for purchase at their original prices. Yesterday, the fans with photo IDs and credit cards were able to purchase the tickets to Miley Cyrus’ show in Minnesota. The concert tour begins on October 18, and will take her to 53 other cities to perform live. The sale of tickets will be the same for a December date in Kansas City.

As of now, no one has taken responsibility for this incident, however, attorney generals in various states have threatened and filed lawsuits against brokers. They do not accept any part in the problem, however, despite the fact that scalping is illegal in many states.

AEG Live president Debra Rathwell had only one thing to say: ‘We are doing everything possible to stop scalpers from being able to purchase tickets.’

Hannah Montana Tickets – Disney’s Hit Series Comes Alive in Concert

If you aren’t in one of the lowest and most desirable age brackets, the Hannah Montana tickets might not mean much to you. However, if you ask your nine-year-old daughter, she would immediately jump at the chance to see Hannah Montana perform live in concert. As always, one should accompany a minor to a concert, but Hannah Montana live is something mostly designed for the younger crowd and fans of the Disney Channel Original Series Hannah Montana. But if you’re a parent, you might just find you enjoy the fun as well.

Hannah Montana is a Disney Channel television show about a little girl who lives a double life. The show’s main character lives in a Hillary Duff-meets-Batman world. By day she is an average teenage girl, going through life’s typical adolescent problems, including boys, parents, bullies, and gossip. But by night, mild-mannered Miley Stewart transforms herself into her alter ego, Hannah Montana, through the use of a blonde wig. Hannah Montana is a pop music singing sensation with all the right moves. The show’s main dilemmas spark from Miley/Hannah, her family and her two best friends trying to keep her secret identity from her classmates. There are also plenty of conflicts with the troubles of daily high school drama. How can someone who seems to have it so together on stage at night seem to be so awkward and unsure about the issues involved in growing up as a teenage girl in this modern world? Watch the show and see how she does it, with humor, charm, and heartwarming lessons.

The concerts will be a lot like the Hannah Montana concerts you see animated on the Disney show, with choreographed dancing, special effects and some great songs you can dance to. The actual performances are done by real people, though. Miley Cyrus, the daughter of famed country singer Billy Ray Cyrus is the voice of Hannah on the show, and the main star of the concerts. Miley was born in 1992 in Franklin, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville. Her given name is Destiny Hope Cyrus, which Billy Ray gave to her because he believed she was going to accomplish great things. He nicknamed her Miley, a short form of the word “smiley,” because she was always smiling as a child. The real-life Miley is a devout Christian and Billy Ray couldn’t have hoped for a more wonderful daughter.

Hannah Montana has many hit singles, which fans of the singer will all know by heart. “I Got Nerve,” “Who Said,” “The Other Side of Me,” “This Is the Life,” and “Best of Both Worlds” have all cracked the Billboard’s Hot 100. By far her most popular song was her 2006 hit “If We Were a Movie,” which reached #47 on the charts. Getting Hannah Montana tickets is something that your son or daughter will be grateful for, and you will probably have a great time as well.

Aerosmith Concert Tickets

Aerosmith is a prominent American rock band. Although they are known as a Boston, Massachusetts band, none of the members are actually from the city. Three of the members, Steven Tallarico (Tyler), Joe Perry, and Tom Hamilton had originally met in Sunapee, New Hampshire in the late ’60s, but had not yet formed a band together. Tyler was from Yonkers, New York, Perry from Hopedale , Massachusetts, and Hamilton from New London, New Hampshire. In 1970, the three decided to form a band and that Boston, Massachusetts would be the ideal venue.
The band enjoyed major popularity throughout the 1970’s, but their serious substance abuse and drug addictions contributed to their decline (The Greatful Dead’s Jerry Garcia reportedly said they were “the druggiest bunch of guys I’ve ever seen”), and almost relegated them to the annals of history. Joe Perry and Brad Whitford left the group and the period from 1979-1984 was a dark one for the band, which carried on with replacements. However, in 1984, chiefly due to the tireless efforts of Joe Perry’s then manager, Tim Collins, to reform the original band, Aerosmith was born again. Despite the insistence of his own client Perry that it was unthinkable, Collins succeeded in helping the band resolve old differences and to ultimately overcome their addictions. Since then, Aerosmith has remained sober for nearly 20 years, and has achieved a level of sustained success that has well eclipsed their 1970’s heyday. Aerosmith, who have performed as the original lineup for the past 22 years, have sold 140 million albums worldwide and have gone on to enjoy a resurgence in popularity that has made them one of the top-selling, acclaimed, and most popular rock bands in the world today.
oe Perry and Tom Hamilton moved to Boston in September of 1970. There they met Joey Kramer, who was, coincidentally, from Yonkers, New York, and also knew Steven Tallarico (soon to be Tyler). Shortly after meeting and after hearing Perry and Hamilton play, Kramer agreed to join the band they were forming, with the understanding that Tyler, whom he’d always hoped one day to play with, would be the Lead Vocalist. Steven Tyler then joined them in Boston in October of 1970 and Aerosmith was born. The five original members were: Steven Tyler (Vocals), Joe Perry (Lead Guitar), Tom Hamilton (Bass), Joey Kramer (Drums), and Ray Tabano (Rhythm Guitar). It wouldn’t be until the summer of 1971 that Ray Tabano was replaced by Brad Whitford of Reading, Massachusetts on guitar, and that Aerosmith would be complete. Other than a period from July 1979 to April 1984, this is the line-up that is still Aerosmith today.

Mariah Carey Concert Tickets

Mariah Carey born March 27,1970 is an American R&B and pop singer-songwriter, record producer, and occasional actress. Carey made her debut in 1990 under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, and became the first recording act to have her first five singles top the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Following her marriage to Mottola in 1993, a series of subsequent successful records consolidated her position as one of Columbia’s highest-selling acts, and according to Billboard magazine she was the most successful artist of the 1990s in the United States.
Carey took full creative control over her image and music following her separation from Mottola in 1997, and introduced elements of hip hop
into her album material. Her popularity was in decline when she left Columbia in 2001, and she was dropped by Virgin Records the following year after a highly publicized physical and emotional breakdown and the poor reception of Glitter, her film and soundtrack project. Carey later signed with Island/Def Jam, and after an unsuccessful period, she returned to the forefront of popular music in 2005.
In 2000 the World Music Awards named Carey the best-selling female artist of all time, and she has recorded the most U.S. number-one singles for a female artist. In addition to her commercial accomplishments, she is well-known for her melismatic singing voice which has been noted for its range, power and technical ability. However, some critics have said that Carey’s efforts to showcase her vocal talents have been at the expense of communicating true emotion through song.
Carey was born in Huntington, Long Island, New York. She is the third and youngest child of Patricia Hickey, a former opera singer and voice coach of Irish American extraction, and Alfred Roy Carey, an aeronautical engineer of Afro-Venezuelan descent. As a multiethnic family, the Careys endured racial slurs, hostility, and sometimes violence, causing the family to frequently relocate throughout the New York and Rhode Island areas. The strain on the family led to the divorce of Carey’s parents when she was three years old.
Carey had little contact with her father, and her mother worked several jobs to support the family. Spending much of her time at home alone, she turned to music as an outlet. She began singing at around the age of three, performing for the first time in public during elementary school, and was writing her own songs by junior high. Carey graduated from Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, New York, although she was frequently absent due to her popularity as a demo singer for local recording studios. Her renown within the Long Island music scene gave her opportunities to work with musicians such as Gavin Christopher and Ben Margulies, with whom she co-wrote material for her demo tape. After moving to New York, City, Carey worked numerous part-time jobs to pay the rent and completed five hundred hours of beauty school. Eventually, she became a backup singer for Brenda K. Starr.
In 1988 Carey met Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola at a party, where Starr gave him Carey’s demo tape. Mottola played the tape while leaving the party and was very impressed with what he heard. He returned to find Carey, but she had left. Nevertheless, Mottola tracked her down and signed her to a recording contract. This Cinderella-like story became part of the standard publicity surrounding Carey’s entrance into the industry.

Journey Concert Tickets

In December 1971, Gregg Rolie, the organist and vocalist and co-founding member of Santana, decided that it was time to leave the band, due to longstanding disagreements with Carlos Santana about the musical direction of the group. He went home to Seattle and opened a restaurant with his father.
While all this was going on, there was another face on the scene; the road manager for Santana, Waleter “Herbie” Herbert. After an abortive South American tour, Herbert was on Carlos’ bad side. Herbie and Santana guitarist Neal Schon had become good friends on the tour. Herbie had the idea to take Schon and form a new band around his guitar-playing talents. After Schon parted ways with a Larry Graham side project that would eventually become Graham Central Station, he agreed. Herbert was able to get George Tickner (guitar) and Ross Valory (former bassist for the Steve Miller Band) who were at the time playing in Frumious Bandersnatch (another band that Herbie managed) to join Schon and form a new band. Prairie Prince (drums), who was already with The Tubes, was recruited to join the new effort.
Meanwhile, Rolie’s restaurant in Seattle was not doing well. Rolie sold a majority of it, but still was on the hook financially. Herbert and Schon agreed that they should also bring in Rolie, and Herbie made the call. In June 1973, the Golden Gate Rhythm Section was formed. Their initial plan was to be a ready-made studio band for anyone wanting to cut a record in San Francisco. While waiting for a job to come along, Tickner started submitting ideas for the band’s own original material. Tickner was leaning toward very progressive material, material that was probably not commercially viable, but was pushing musical boundaries. They recorded some demo tapes and sent them to KSAN-FM, the Bay Area rock station. After listeners heard the tapes, and were given some background on the band, they were invited to submit names for the band. There is some dispute as to who actually came up with the name Journey, but John Villaneuva, a Herbert associate, put it forward to Herbie, and the band had a new name.
he band’s first public appearance came at Winterland New Year’s Eve 1973. The next day, they flew to Hawaii and played the Crater Festival. Prince, while he didn’t mind helping the band out, was still tied to his other band, The Tubes. He did not really want make a commitment to join formally, so Herbert, having become manager of the new band, arranged for auditions for a new drummer, but nobody clicked. Herbert thought of Aynsley Dunbar, a drummer who played with Frank Zappa, John Mayall, Jeff Beck, Bonzo Dog Band, Mothers of Invention, Lou Reed, and David Bowie. Schon remembered seeing him play with Zappa, and the hunt was on. Although Dunbar didn’t know the members of Journey, he saw the potential and joined the band. On February 5th 1974, the new line-up made their debut at the Great American Music Hall. The band was off and running.
Signed to Columbia Records, Journey released its self-titled first album Journey in 1975. It showcased their considerable talent as musicians on jazz-flavored progressive rock epics.
Guitarist George Tickner was tired from touring and left the band by the time of their second album, Look into the Future, which toned down a little the overt progressiveness of their first release but still retained a jazz fusion base. The following year’s Next tried for shorter tracks to increase accessibility, but didn’t find commercial success (although it did start a pattern of trademark one-word album titles).
In 1981, Journey’s seventh studio album, Escape, went to No. 1 on the album charts and would go on to become their most popular. The hits “Who’s Crying Now”, “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Open Arms” all reached the Top 10 as singles. The band’s polished sound, fronted by Perry’s distinctive and soon-to-be widely imitated voice, became a popular radio presence.
In particular, “Don’t Stop Believin’” showcased how well Perry’s soaring tenor could interlace with Cain’s full piano chords and Schon’s dynamic guitar work, while “Open Arms” — which spent six weeks at No. 2 on the charts — helped establish Perry as the standard for 1980s arena rock power ballad vocals.
Such success did not help Journey with rock critics, who for the most part had not liked any edition of the band. The 1983 Rolling Stone Record Guide gave all their albums only one star, saying “Journey was a dead end for San Francisco area rock … utter triviality … banality … reek[s] of exploitative cynicism.” Fairly or not, critics often lumped Journey together with other one-word-named “corporate rock” bands such as Boston, Foreigner, Asia, Survivor and so forth.
In 1982, the band contributed two tracks (”Only Solutions” and “1990’s Theme”) to the Disney feature film Tron. Coincidentally, later that year the group became the first rock band to inspire a video game, with Journey and Journey: Escape.
Journey’s next album, 1983’s Frontiers, continued their commercial success. It reached No. 2 on the album charts and scored four hit singles, with “Faithfully” and “Separate Ways” reaching the highest at Nos. 12 and 8, respectively. Cain’s presence was more felt on this album, both in his songwriting (he was the sole writer of “Faithfully”) and in the greater use of keyboards in the sound.
It was now the MTV era, and Journey’s popularity was boosted by a documentary-like music video for “Faithfully”, which showed various band members and their families on tour and which helped place the song up with Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page” and Jackson Browne’s “Load Out/Stay” as a life-on-the-road favorite.

Supporting the Voicless; Mandela London Concert 2008

It is time once again for London to host another of Nelson Mandela global 46,664 concert. In June 2008 there will be a concert to celebrate Mandela’s 90th birthday at Hyde Park, London. The significance of the concert is that the money raised will go a long way to help his charity for children with HIV/AIDS. Concerts have been held for Nelson Mandela at Wembley Stadium in 1988 and another in 1990 after Mr Mandela was released from prison. It may be recalled that in June 1988, the first Mandela concert was held at Wembly stadium to press for his release from prison. Eurythmics, Sting, Whitney Houston
, Simple Minds and Dire Straits were among the stars who performed at that event on 11 June 1988. The concert comes 20 years after the landmark spectacle at Wembley Stadium to call for his release from prison which also marked his 70th birthday.

So what is 46664? The 46664 ( fans and supporters often chant “four, double six, six four!” ) was Nelson Mandela’s prison number when he was imprisoned on Robben Island, off Cape Town in South Africa. He was jailed in 1964 for 27 years for leading the liberation movement against apartheid and for his impassioned stance on the rights of everyone to live in freedom. He was prisoner number 466, imprisoned in 1964. The Robben Island prisoners were never referred to by their names, but rather by their numbers and year of imprisonment – hence 46664 was Nelson Mandela’s number. It is now the name of his Aids support charity, which will get proceeds from the show.

The 46664 campaign began in 2003 when Mr Mandela realised that to reach the youth of the world he needed to engage the support of the people who most appeal to them. Using the power of music, sport and celebrity to educate and empower, supported by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, Annie Lennox and Bono.

Mandela is a great crowd-puller. In 2005, as many as 20,000 people who gathered at Trafalgar Square to listen to a speech on making poverty history by the iconic Mandela. He has had an almost fanatical support, support that is best reserved for entertainers but not usually politicians outside their constituencies. Before Mr Mandela’s release from prison in 1990, Trafalgar Square was the scene of anti-apartheid demonstrations in front of the South African embassy. On the occasion of making his ‘The Global Campaign for Action Against Poverty’ speech in 2005, Mandela was showered with many titles and terms such as the “president of the world” and “with the coolest shirt collection in the world”. Well, he could be both and more.

The former South African president will travel to London for the 27 June event, which will feature a long string of top entertainers from around the world including; Dame Shirley Bassey, Simple Minds and Razorlight. The British-born, South African-based pop star Johnny Clegg is also on the bill with Sipho Mabuse, Loyiso, Papa Wemba , Emmanuel Jal, Sugababes, Andrea and Sharon Corr, Eddy Grant, Italian star Zucchero and Spainish group Amaral, while Queen will perform with vocalist Paul Rodgers, Leona Lewis, Annie Lennox and the Soweto Gospel Choir, Eminem, U2, Amy Winehouse and the Spice Girls are among the acts that will appear at a concert for Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday in June.

There will also be an appearance by The Children of Agape, a choir of Aids orphans who were the subject of the film We Are Together. You might remember that Annie Lennox played a key part in the foundation of 46664 in 2003. That must be one of those rare occasions when the best of the best congregate in one place. There is a rumour that more stars are being lined up to take both Mr Mandela and the audience by surprise.

To conclude, you may ask, why does Mandela attract so much attention? Mandela faught a fair war against descrimination in South Africa and knew when to step down from the presidency which he served very well. Besides, isn’t it refreshing to see a politician from a developing world standing on such a high moral ground when most leaders are presiding over terrible regimes that allow people to loot public wealth at will, kill others for sport, and destroy public and private property at the slightest excuse. The repercussions of this callous and irresponsibility is there for all to see. We can discern this from massive poverty and obscene inequality that you see in many parts of the world. The world needs more people like Mandela.

Radiohead
concert tickets
Radiohead’s style, notable for its variety and versatility, can be largely explained by the eclectic musical tastes and accomplishments of its members. Lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood is currently the BBC’s Composer in Residence, a multi-instrumentalist, and the only classically trained member of the band, playing (aside from the guitar) such instruments as the Ondes Martenot, banjo, viola and harmonica. Lead singer Thom Yorke, as well as writing all the lyrics, plays several different instruments, and has also focused in recent years on the digital manipulation of sound. He and Jonny are both credited with playing “laptop” on the band’s most recent album.
Though Yorke and Greenwood are often seen as the main creative influences within the band, songwriting is chiefly a collaborative effort, and all members are cited equally by the band in their album credits. For example, Ed O’Brien, though usually employed as a guitarist and backing vocalist, is responsible for creating many of the noises and effects heard in songs (such as the end of “Karma Police”), and is also a skilled drummer; and bassist Colin Greenwood and drummer Phil Selway are known to have played an influential role in shaping several of Radiohead’s recent pieces. Since the Kid A and Amnesiac recording sessions, band members have felt less constrained to always play “their” instrument, often switching off depending on what the song requires, although in live shows the roles are usually more consistent.
This spirit of creative collaboration is also shown in the band’s close relationship with their producers, in particular Nigel Godrich, who worked with the band as coproducer on OK Computer and the following three albums after serving as an engineer on the recording of The Bends. Godrich has often been dubbed the “sixth member” of Radiohead in an allusion to George Martin’s work with the Beatles, but this association has been at least temporarily broken following the band’s decision to work with Mark “Spike” Stent during current recording sessions.
Graphic artist Stanley Donwood is another long-term associate of the group, having produced together with Yorke (who is often listed under the pseudonym “Tchock”, “Tchocky”, or “Dr. Tchock”) all of Radiohead’s visual artwork (excepting music videos) since their My Iron Lung EP. For Radiohead, Donwood has produced art ranging from oil paintings to computer generated imagery to collages and antique style posters, and prefers to work in the same place the band is recording so as to find a visual equivalent for their sound. Donwood thus projects significant influence over the public image of the band, and the issues addressed in his artwork have been seen to act as a catalyst to themes within Yorke’s lyrics. Together with Yorke, he won a Grammy in 2002 for a special edition of Amnesiac packaged as a library book.
Radiohead were formed in the mid-Eighties at Abingdon School, a public (in American English: private) boys-only school located just outside the city of Oxford, which drummer Phil Selway, guitarist Ed O’Brien, guitarist/vocalist Thom Yorke, bassist Colin Greenwood and Colin’s multi-instrumentalist brother Jonny all attended. They began practicing in the school’s music room, which led to the formation of their first band On a Friday, so named because of their customary rehearsal date. Among On a Friday’s earliest influences were The Smiths, Joy Division, Magazine, Queen, R.E.M, and Elvis Costello. The band played their first gig in September 1986, at Oxford’s Jericho Tavern. Jonny was the youngest member, and played only harmonica until he could persuade the others to allow him on guitar, but he soon developed into the band’s lead player. At one point early in the band’s history, On a Friday also had several girls in the lineup playing saxophone.
When the five band members left school to attend university they temporarily put aside On a Friday, but continued to practice on holiday breaks, always planning to return to the band. After four years of dormancy, On a Friday began releasing demos (such as the Manic Hedgehog Demo) and performing live again in Oxford in 1991, becoming popular in the region and also appearing on the cover of local magazine Curfew. Though Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley had an active independent music scene in the late 80s and early 90s centred around shoegazing bands like Ride and Slowdive, Radiohead was not seen to fit into this trend, and commented that they had “missed” it by the time they returned from university.
Radiohead began work again in January 2005, with Thom playing a selection of new songs to the other members, who in turn began adding their own parts. The recording process has been described by the band as “unorganised”, and very different to the way Radiohead has recorded before. By early autumn, the band returned to more regular recording sessions, posting intermittently in their Dead Air Space blog on their progress.
Perhaps the biggest change is the choice of producer for the record: for the first time in more than a decade, Nigel Godrich won’t oversee the making of the album, although he collaborated on Thom’s 2006 solo album and may record some material with the band. According to Ed O’Brien, Radiohead wanted to challenge themselves again and felt too “comfortable” with Godrich as sole coproducer. Instead, the band is working with Mark “Spike” Stent who has previously engineered, mixed or produced albums by Bjork, Massive Attack, U2 and Madonna).
It appears unlikely that the band will re-sign with EMI. Its management has also dismissed rumours that Warner Music was lining up to sign the band, stating: “The band (is) not looking for a record company in any way, shape or form. They are out of a contract, but they’re not actively looking for another one. They’re getting on with doing what they do”. In an interview in April for NME, Thom revealed that they do plan to sign a record deal eventually, but on their own terms, and not until the album is finished. This was confirmed in a June interview with The Observer: “‘Will we re-sign to EMI?’ he mused. ‘I don’t know. I don’t think we’d sign sign to anybody. Give someone a record when it’s done if we feel that they can do it justice. That’s it.’”
In March 2005, Thom and Jonny performed at the Ether Festival in London, with the London Sinfonietta, the Arab Orchestra of Nazareth, and others. The song “Arpeggi”, which will likely be included on Radiohead’s next release, was debuted in this performance. Greenwood also debuted two of his own classical pieces, one written for the Ondes Martenot. Later that summer, Yorke performed an acoustic set for the Trade Justice Rally, performing “Nude” (aka “Big Ideas”), debuting the new song “House of Cards,” reviving the unreleased “Reckoner,” and introducing “Last Flowers [to the Hospital],” apparently a remnant of the OK Computer period. All are considered possible candidates for Radiohead’s next recordings, though only “Nude” and “House of Cards” have been performed since by the full band.
In early September 2005 the band recorded a new piano and vocal-based song, “I Want None of This”, for the War Child charity album Help: A Day in the Life, a sequel to the 1995 compilation for which the band had written “Lucky.” In contrast with that song, “I Want None of This” was not released as a single.
The new album’s release date and title are still unconfirmed. In 2005 Yorke has said the band might not even release an album at all, but EPs or tracks distributed through the Internet, although the band have often claimed this as a possibility in the past and then released an album. Radiohead has begun debuting some of its new material during its present tour of smaller venues in Europe and North America. The band is also headlining several concert festivals for the first time, including Bonnaroo in Tennessee and the UK’s V Festival. After the tour is over the band is expected to return to recording, releasing their seventh album sometime in 2007 (which would make it the longest gap between any Radiohead albums).
Thom and Jonny began Radiohead’s 2006 summer tour with an acoustic benefit show for environmental organization Friends of the Earth at London’s Koko club, for an audience including representatives of major British political parties (among the fans, controversially, was Tory leader David Cameron). During the full band’s current tour, in addition to playing re-arranged versions of “Arpeggi,” “Nude” and “House of Cards,” Radiohead has so far premiered eleven new tracks: “Bangers ‘N’ Mash”, “Open Pick”, ” 15 Step”, “4 Minute Warning”, “Arpeggi”, “Spooks”, “Bodysnatchers”, “Go Slowly”, “Videotape”, “Down Is The New Up” and “All I Need”. Apparently these tracks represent only a part of the new material, and the band has said more songs may still be premiered at upcoming concerts. Tracks that have been “announced” by the band on their weblog and have yet to be debuted in full band arrangements include “Last Flowers”, “Burn the Witch,” and “5ths,” although the latter may have evolved into “All I Need.”

Today Bon Jovi Concert tickets go for as much as 400 dollars. This is a startling feat considering how many times Bon Jovi’s gone hiatus. With the early succession of his first four scores, it surprised many that there would be only two albums in the 90’s. With 00’s already produced three albums fans already anticipate more with their recent revival.

Tom Petty Concert Tickets

Tom Petty, known in his early years as “Tommy”, was born in Gainesville, Florida and grew up in northeast Gainesville. As a teen-aged, amateur musician he often practiced at home with friends and sometimes even in the family owned fall-out shelter located in his back yard. Petty graduated from Gainesville High School in 1968. Petty did not have any musical aspirations until Elvis Presley came to Ocala, Florida, 25 miles south of Petty’s hometown, to work on a film, “Follow That Dream”. Petty went down to watch him and was inspired. After working with his early bands The Sundowners, The Epics, and Mudcrutch with ace drummer Randall Marsh, (which also included future Heartbreakers members Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench) he began his recording career with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers when the band broke onto the national music scene with their 1976 self-titled debut album. Still, it took America a full year to catch up to the album. “Breakdown” was re-released to radio and became a Top 40 hit in 1977 after word filtered back the band was creating a firestorm in England.
Their 1978 second album You’re Gonna Get It! proved the debut album’s intensity was no fluke. Marking the band’s first gold album, it features the singles “Listen To Her Heart” and “I Need To Know”. Shortly after its release the band was dragged into a legal dispute when ABC Records was sold to MCA Records. Petty refused to simply be transferred to another record label without his consent. He held fast to his principles for nine long months, which eventually led to him filing for bankruptcy.
After the dispute was settled, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers released their third album Damn The Torpedoes (1979) that rapidly became triple-platinum. It includes “Refugee”, their U.S. breakthrough single.
Petty was appealling to an wide range of musical tastes as new wave. Punk and rocker fans alike were taking notice.
Though he was already extremely successful, Petty ran into record company trouble again when he and the Heartbreakers prepared to release Hard Promises (1981), the follow-up to Damn the Torpedoes. MCA wanted to release the record at the list price of $9.98, which was a high price at the time. Petty refused to comply to their wishes, threatening to change the album title to “The 8.98 Album” & actually withhold the album from the label. He organized a fan protest that forced the company to release the record at 8.98. Hard Promises became a Top Ten hit, going platinum and spawning the hit single “The Waiting.”
On their fifth album Long After Dark (1982) bass player Ron Blair was replaced by Howie Epstein, giving The Heartbreakers their line up until 1994. However, Petty had problems coping with the stress and success and decided to slow things down.
On their comeback album Southern Accents Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers picked up where they had left off. The recording was not without problems — Petty became frustrated during the mixing process and broke his left hand after punching through a wall. The album includes the hit single “Don’t Come Around Here No More” which was produced by Dave Stewart. The video for the single, featuring Tom dressed as The Mad Hatter mocking and chasing Alice from the book Alice in Wonderland, then cutting and eating her as if she were a cake, caused some controversy after it was criticized by feminist groups.
A successful concert tour led to the live album Pack Up the Plantation-Live. The band’s live capabilities were put to the test when Bob Dylan invited Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers to join him on his True Confessions tour through the U.S., Australia, Japan and Europe.
Also in 1987, the group released Let Me Up, a studio album made to sound like a live recording using a technique they borrowed from Bob Dylan. It includes “Jammin’ Me”, which Petty wrote with Dylan.
Petty also appeared in several episodes of It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, playing himself as one of Garry Shandling’s neighbors. This show appeared on the then-fledgling Fox network.
In1989, Petty released Full Moon Fever. Though nominally a solo project, other Heartbreakers and well-known musicians participated in the album’s production. Mike Campbell co-produced the album with Petty and Jeff Lynne of Electric Light Orchestra. It was in the Billboard Top Ten chart for over 34 weeks and earned triple-platinum status, along the way spawning such hits as “I Won’t Back Down”, “Free Fallin” and “Runnin’ Down A Dream”.
Prior to Full Moon Fever, Lynne and Petty worked together in the all-stars band Traveling Wilburys, which also counted Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Roy Orbison as members. Traveling Wilburys started as a joke in order to record a B-side for a George Harrison single, but the song “Handle With Care” was such a success that the group decided to record a full album, Traveling Wilburys. Roy Orbison’s sudden death cast a shadow on the success and shortly afterwards Del Shannon, whom the remaining Wilburys had in mind as a replacement, committed suicide. A second Wilburys album, mysteriously called Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3, followed but couldn’t quite live up to expectations.
Petty rejoined with the Heartbreakers for his next album, Into the Great Wide Open in 1991. It was again produced by Jeff Lynne and includes the hit singles “Learning To Fly” and “Into The Great Wide Open”, the latter featuring Johnny Depp, Gabrielle Anwar and Faye Dunaway in the video.
In 1994, Petty released his second solo album, Wildflowers, which included hit singles “You Don’t Know How It Feels”, “You Wreck Me”, “It’s Good to Be King”, “A Higher Place” and “Honey Bee”. A year later, a six CD Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers box-sets was released, entitled Playback. Approximately half of the tracks were previously available on albums, while the rest were B-sides, demos and live tracks. Two notable tracks are a version of Tom’s famous duets with Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”, which Tom sings alone, and the song “Waiting For Tonight,” which features vocals from The Bangles. The latter song also appeared on the two CD anthology released in 2000.
1996 saw the release of Tom’s solo soundtrack to the movie She’s the One, starring Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston. Three singles were released from this album, “Walls (Circus)” (featuring Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac), “Climb that Hill” and “Change the Locks”. The album also included a cover of a song by Beck, “Asshole”.
Three years after the release of She’s the One, Tom recorded the album Echo, with the Heartbreakers. Two songs were released as singles in the U.S., “Room at the Top” and “Free Girl Now”. The album reached number 10 in the U.S. album charts. A Tom Petty Anthology was released in 2000, compiled by film director Cameron Crowe.
Tom’s most recent album was The Last DJ, released in 2002. Many of the tracks are stinging attacks on the music industry, criticising the greediness inherent within it, as well as the tendency of record companies to water down popular rock acts and release throwaway pop music made by scantily-clad young girls. The album reached number 9 in the U.S. charts.
Petty has been honored with 16 Grammy Awards nominations since 1981. In that year he received his first nomination for “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” in the category of Best Rock Performance By A Duo or Group With Vocal. Petty earned a Grammy Award in 1989 for Best Rock Performance By A Duo or Group With Vocal for his work with the Traveling Wilburys. In 1994 he received another two Grammy Awards: Best Male Rock Vocal Performance (for “You Don’t Know How It Feels”) and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical). Wildflowers also garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album.
Other Wildflowers achievements included Best Male Video Award for “You Don’t Know How It Feels” at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers won the same award in 1994 with the video “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”. At the 1994 ceremony, Petty was also presented with the Video Vanguard Award, citing his longtime contributions to the field. In accepting the award though, while expressing his appreciation to MTV for the award, Petty denied his work was any more important than anyone else’s, saying that all artistic expression was equally valid and implicitly validating the work of up-and-coming and aspiring musicians.
As a songwriter, Tom Petty was acknowledged in May 1996 with the prestigious Golden Note Award from ASCAP. In April 1996, Petty received UCLA’s George And Ira Gershwin Award For Lifetime Musical Achievement. In 2002 the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
